Hi, folks! It's been a while since we've done a quasi-official newsletter. We've been busy, but in sort of off-line ways. The big news right now (and sorry for not mailing this out earlier) is our new CDs, by members of Comma and duos containing them. These are small-runs (actually CD-Rs burnt as needed) with innovative hand-made packaging and out-of-the-ordinary music. The CDs are: Gusty Winds May Exist: Gusty Winds May Exist (MPCD 002R) Shakuhachi player Nancy Beckman and recorder player Tom Bickley (of Comma) in transcontinental duets. Some of these were recorded live in performances in New Mexico. Others are "telepathic duets", in which the two performed simultaneously at opposite ends of the continent, combined the performances with uncanny results. zitt/matis: "Even the Widest Aardvark Outdreams the Gnu" (MPCD 003R) Electric guitarist Jonathan Matis and vocalist Joseph Zitt (of Comma) in a series of edgy, spacious sound scapes. Jon creates dense webs of processed sound with guitar and devices, and Joe sings, chants, and otherwise sounds in unknown and created languages. Matthew Ross Davis: Animals (electronikazoomusique) (MPCD 004R) Electronic works by Comma member Matthew Ross Davis. These compositions cover a wide range of styles and sources, remixing dance tracks via chance operations, creating orchestra of birds from materials found on the Net, and a lowercase sine-wave tribute to David Tudor. The remixes include materials from zitt/matis and mp3 ambient stars trancenden. We're having a Release Event on Monday night, October 25, (yes, tomorrow) at the Galaxy Hut, 2711 Wilson Blvd, Arlington VA. Comma, zitt/matis, and various combinations of them will be playing two sets of continuous structured improvisation starting at 9 PM. Admission is free, so come on down... More info will be coming soon on other performances and events, so stay tuned and keep listening! -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Shekhinah: The Presence http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | [ To be reminded how to subscribe, unsubscribe, etc: ] [email majordomo@metatronpress.com with the text "info comma-announce"] [ Comma Web site: http://www.artswire.org/comma/ ]
